Devotion 1/7/11

Galatians 2:9 James, Peter and John, those reputed to be pillars, gave me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship when they recognized the grace given to me. They agreed that we should go to the Gentiles, and they to the Jews.

Peter, James, and John looked upon Paul and understood without a doubt that God was working through him to reach the Gentiles. They saw in the workings of Paul the same movement of God as was present within their work with the Jews. Upon this recognition, they embraced Paul and Barnabas as fellow workers for the cause of Christ, thus encouraging them to continue their work among the Gentiles as Peter, James, and John continued their work among the Jews. Every Christian has a purpose, a purpose that can be used to expand the kingdom of God, a purpose that can bring the hope of Jesus into the lives of the hopeless. We should never become envious of the abilities of another. We should never desire the gifts of another. Instead, we should embrace who God designed us to be and use these abilities to guide others into His presence, where they will find forgiveness and salvation.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, use me as You have made me to make clear the path to forgiveness and salvation.
