Devotion 1/8/11

Revelation 1:9 I, John, your brother and companion in the suffering and kingdom and patient endurance that are ours in Jesus, was on the island of Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.

John was exiled to the island of Patmos because of his refusal to discontinue the spreading of the gospel. The island of Patmos was located in the Aegean Sea, approximately 50 miles from the mainland.  Its surface was found to be protruding with various sizes of rocks, thus  making living conditions less than optimal for anyone. But even here upon this undesirable place, John continued to live within the purpose God set before his life. John had the opportunity to end his service believing that there was nothing else he could do, but instead he found ways to continue to serve within his present circumstances. As we grow, the manner in which we serve God begins to change. There are things that we are no longer able to do as we once could, but there are still many other opportunities to serve God, many other ways we can make a difference for the sake of the gospel.

 Prayer Starter:

Lord, I want to be used to bring about Your desires within this world. Use me any way You can.
