Devotion 1/25/11

Matthew 26:14-16 Then one of the Twelve—the one called Judas Iscariot —went to the chief priests and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?” So they counted out for him thirty silver coins. From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over

Judas chose his path in life, just as we do ourselves. Each time he arrived at a crossroad, he chose which way his feet would carry him next. In making his decisions, it is apparent that he chose the path not of least resistance, not of the majority, but the path that enhanced his life personally. One must ask himself why he began his journey with Jesus in the first place? Did he follow Jesus because he knew his life needed to be adjusted before it carried him too far down the wrong road? Did he follow Jesus because he thought it would give him stature among the common folk, you know being one of the “Twelve?” Did he follow Jesus simply because he had nothing else to do with his life? Whatever the reason, each step of the way Judas chose his path. How about you? Why do you follow Jesus?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me understand why I follow You, and may those reasons have nothing to do with personal gain past the forgiveness You have extended to me.
