Devotion 1/27/11

Acts 9:39 Peter went with them, and when he arrived he was taken upstairs to the room. All the widows stood around him, crying and showing him the robes and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was still with them.

Dorcas had made an enormous impact on the community in which she lived. She was known mostly for her generosity towards the widows, but her actions impacted many more than she could have ever imagined. Her impacting tool was her ability to make clothing, which, to most, would seem like something simple. But to those who needed it, it was life altering. In her passing, her room was filled with mourners whose presence touched Peter’s heart so deeply that he, through the working of God, brought her back to life. What we do for others has the ability to transform their lives, that is, if we are doing it for the right reason. People know where our motives are within our actions, and may they always be seen as actions brought out on behalf of God.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me serve others in Your name and Your name alone.
