10/18/12 Daily Devotion

James 2:23 And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend.

Abraham’s life stands as a powerful example for all Christians. He left all that he had, all that he was, all that he knew, to follow a God that he knew nothing about, completely out of faith. Abraham believed, and he was called God’s friend. The scriptures are very clear on the topic of God’s friendship. If we follow God will all our hearts, if we walk upon the path to righteousness, we will be called faithful friends of God. The scriptures are also clear in the opposite direction. If we refuse to walk with God, if we refuse to be faithful to Him and His ways, then we are no friend to Him. God’s friendship is earned through our faithfulness. Are you being a faithful friend of God?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, I have sinned against You, but You are still there for me. I have turned my back on You more times than I wish to remember, but You are still there for me. Lord, help me begin to live as one who is faithful continually, instead of one who is faithful infrequently.
