11/1/12 Daily Devotion

1 Thessalonians 1:4-6 For we know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you, [5] because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake. [6] You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering with the joy given by the Holy Spirit.

Would a carpenter commit to remodeling a home if he never planned to purchase a hammer? Would a plumber commit to replacing your pipes without any inclination of what a pipe looked like? Would a new library open its doors without a single book in stock? One would hope that each of the afore mentioned people would gain the necessary knowledge, tools, and/or supplies before they ventured into their claims as providers of a service. As consumers, we have an expectation when we hire someone or go somewhere, and that is to be expected; but what about us as Christians? Shouldn’t the world have an expectation of the way we present our lives? Shouldn’t the others within this world expect us to be exactly what we claim? Serious Christians pray. Serious Christians study. Serious Christians seek the powerful presence of God within their daily lives. Are you a serious Christian? Do others receive from you the claims you make about your life?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me become a serious Christian.
