11/30/12 Daily Devotion

Mark 6:3 Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.

How would you react if your brother walked up and stated that he was the Messiah? What words would come from your mouth if your neighbor, across the fence, told you that he was the Son of God? To say we would have a difficult time is to share a drastic understatement. As we understand our reaction, we gain some understanding into the reactions of those familiar with Mary, Joseph, and the rest of the family. They were their friends. They were their neighbors. They were people they watched grow up. So how could God be brought into this world through the likes of those who were no different than themselves? Many refused to believe the son of a carpenter could be the Messiah, but many came to believe in that which seemed unbelievable because of their faith. Is your faith strong enough to believe in and live for the Messiah?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, You are glorious. Let this truth be seen through my life.
