12/1/12 Daily Devotion

John 7:34 You will look for me, but you will not find me; and where I am, you cannot come.”

Many people refused to believe that Jesus was the Messiah. Over the years of their lives, as it was passed down through their families, they had come to have an image of the coming Messiah, and Jesus was not reflective of that image. They were expecting a conqueror, one that would rule with an iron fist. They were expecting a conqueror, one that would come and bring drastic punishment into the lives of their oppressors. They had a preconceived idea of their Messiah, and it was not the carpenter’s son. We, too, have expectations. We, too, have preconceived ideas about God and what we expect of Him within our lives. So we are no different. Let us resolve from this moment forward to set aside our ideas and expectations and embrace the sometimes unknown path of God, for this is where we will meet and experience the real presence of God.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, find me, that I might begin to really live for You.
