2/28/13 Daily Devotion

Micah 7:18 Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy.

There are many “so called” gods within this world. Most of them came into existence as the result of the desires of man. They were brought to reality to fulfill the intentions or glorification of someone or a group or association. These “gods” represent many things, but NONE of them will ever compare to the One True God. God is awesome! His existence brings great possibilities into our lives. His existence brings us forgiveness. His existence brings us mercy. His existence can change the life of anyone who is willing to accept Him and follow in His steps. Are you willing?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, no one can be compared to You. Your kindness and compassion are beyond understanding. Your forgiveness is so endearing. Please, Lord, show me Your compassion and forgiveness today.

2/27/13 Daily Devotion

2 Chronicles 7:14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Everyone needs forgiveness, because everyone has caused infractions to appear within this world. So many people walk about holding themselves higher than others. They act as if they are above all things, even forgiveness. What they do is right, because they can do no wrong. What causes a person to walk with such superiority? What causes a person to believe that they can do no wrong, ever? Pride is the answer. The prideful person is perfect. The prideful person does no wrong. The prideful person is miles from the humble person, who understands the need for forgiveness. If we would just come to understand that we need forgiveness. If we would just humble ourselves and seek the face of God, He would forgive us, He will restore us, and He will send us upon the proper path. Will you come to God and seek forgiveness for your transgressions? Will you humble yourself before God and set your life in the right direction?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, forgive me of my transgressions and lead me into a new direction, a new purpose.

2/26/13 Daily Devotion

Psalm 32:1-2 Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. [2] Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit.

We are blessed when we are forgiven. We are blessed when our sins are covered with the shed blood of Jesus. We are blessed when our transgressions are not held against us. We are truly blessed because of God’s forgiveness. Where would be otherwise? The question that comes to mind is this: If we feel so blessed because of the forgiveness of God, are we allowing others to feel blessed with our forgiveness? Are we allowing others to know what it means to feel like they have been forgiven? Are we allowing others to feel the blessings that come from an infraction released? If we are not, then we must question the motives of our heart and our relationship with God.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, may Your forgiveness of me empower me to show the same extension of forgiveness to others.

2/25/13 Daily Devotion

Genesis 50:17 ‘This is what you are to say to Joseph: I ask you to forgive your brothers the sins and the wrongs they committed in treating you so badly.’ Now please forgive the sins of the servants of the God of your father. ” When their message came to him, Joseph wept.

Forgiveness is difficult. If you don’t believe this to be true, just ask Joseph. He had every right to be angry with his brothers, for, in their jealousy, they sold him into slavery. Some might say they had a right to be, angry because their father chose to make Joseph his favorite. He received more attention, more breaks, and more expressions of love. They saw Joseph as a threat to their existence and their own personal glory. Years later, standing before Joseph, were his brothers and a very difficult decision: Should he seek revenge or offer forgiveness? The road of forgiveness is not the path of least resistance, but it is the path of God. The excuses are classic: “You don’t know what they have done,” or “You don’t understand how much I was hurt.” We can make excuses and make them often, but they will not work when we are standing in the presence of God. Here is the bottom line: sometimes we must do something difficult in order to emulate Jesus. Jesus forgave those who crucified Him. Are you willing to forgive those who have done to you nothing that compares?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, teach me how to forgive.

2/23/13 Daily Devotion

1 Peter 5:4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.

What a glorious day it will be when we receive the fruits of our labor from God. The amazing day that all Christians have been waiting to experience will change us for all eternity. Christians are not of this world, for our home awaits us in Heaven. What shall we do while we await this glorious day? The answer is simple. While we await the return of Jesus, we are to be His representatives here on earth. We are to live as those who are awaiting their journey home, as those who are willing to serve God each and every moment they are blessed with upon this earth. Our rewards are tied to our service for the Lord. Is your service to God going to bring you rewards as You stand before Him in judgement?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me live every moment of my life for You.

2/22/13 Daily Devotion

Revelation 22:7 “Look, I am coming soon! Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy written in this scroll.”

There are some who believe Christians are slightly void of realism because of their hope in Christ. They don’t understand why we would place our lives in the hands of a God that is not visible. They don’t understand why we would trust a God that is seemingly absent. They believe this because they do not believe in the Word of God. Christians hold tightly to the promises of scripture. Christians trust in God because they believe in His promises. Some people may never understand our faith. Some people may never understand why we are waiting on Christ to return. Some people may never understand why we are willing to relinquish control of our lives over to God, and that is perfectly fine, as long as they see and feel our commitment.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, use me to bring others to a belief in You.

2/21/13 Daily Devotion

1 Corinthians 4:5 Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart. At that time each will receive their praise from God.

Revenge belongs to God. Christians should not seek revenge against others. Christians should place all of their hurt feelings, all of their anger, all of their desires to get revenge, at the foot of the cross. There is nothing that we can do that will even compare to the judgment of God. It sometimes feels like certain people get away with sinful behavior. We begin to feel like no one notices, but this is not true. God sees all and will, when He comes, expose the hearts of all mankind. Nothing will be beyond His sight nor will it be beyond His understanding. God will, in the end, have the final move, thus we must set aside any personal grievances and allow God to take care of it all.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me contain my anger and allow You to take care of having the last word in all of my grievances, as I await Your Son to carry me home..

2/20/13 Daily Devotion

1 Peter 5:8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

As we await the return of Jesus, we must keep watch. Satan knows exactly what his eternity has in store for him, thus his desire to take as many of us with him as possible. We must be alert and take notice of all that is happening around us all the time. When we let our guard down, when we do not take seriously the presence of Satan, when we refuse to believe he is real, he gets a foothold into our lives and moves forward from that point. Some people believe that he will come like ferocious animal and jump at our throats, but this is ridiculous. Satan is mischievous, but intelligent. He knows he does not need to jump at our throats, instead he takes us down one small step at a time. Are you alert and ready for the devil to come? Are you ready to thwart his attacks as you await the arrival of Jesus?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, make me more aware of the devil’s attempts to carry me away from Your presence.

2/19/13 Daily Devotion

Acts 3:21 Heaven must receive him until the time comes for God to restore everything, as he promised long ago through his holy prophets.

As Christians, we look beyond all that we can understand. We look at life as a gift from God, a gift that is to be cherished, a gift that is to be utilized. We look towards things that cause others to criticize our intelligence. We walk through life awaiting the arrival of our King, our Lord, our Savior. We await the time when He will come to carry us home. That’s why we are different; that’s why we are unique. We have an outlook that many don’t understand. We have an outlook that carries us into a different understanding about life. That’s what makes Christians different. We serve a risen Savior, a Savior who will come to guide us into our eternal home.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, You as so amazing, and I am so undeserving of Your love. Even so, You have prepared a place for me to reside for all eternity. Help me Lord. Help me diligently serve You until You carry me home.

2/18/13 Daily Devotion

1 Peter 5:5 In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”

As Christians, we are living upon this earth in anticipation of entering our eternal home in the presence of God in Heaven. While we are here, while we wait for Jesus to come, we have many responsibilities. One of these responsibilities is directly related to our actions: we must be humble in heart and in actions. This world is in desperate need of a Godly example. Things are getting worse. People are turning from God and advancing themselves wholeheartedly into the ways of world. We, as Christians, must humble ourselves and exemplify the presence of God. We must place God powerfully before us, seeking to bring a humble example of Him into the presence of this world. Humility is a sign of maturity. Have you moved into maturity within your relationship with God?

Prayer Starer:

Lord, help me walk in humility, so others can clearly see You.
