3/30/13 Daily Devotion

John 19:30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

“It is finished.” While those were the last words of Jesus before He died upon the cross of Calvary, He was not finished with the plan of God. At that moment, the first part of God’s plan came to completion. No longer would there need to be a sacrificial lamb’s blood spilled, for the lamb of God would be the finality of all sacrifices. It was finished, but the best part was just about to begin. While that which Jesus had to endure was terrible, it was necessary. Without the death of Jesus, there would be no conquering of death. Without the death of Jesus, there would be a continuation of the Old Testament. Without the death of Jesus, this world would be inherently lost. Yes, at that moment part one was finished, but praise and glory be to God that three days following, Jesus arose from the dead.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, Your sacrifice on the cross was for me, an undeserving sinner. I am sorry that I have a propensity towards sin, but I am grateful that You died for me. Thank You!!

3/29/13 Daily Devotion

1 John 5:6 This is the one who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.

Our Lord is so wonderful. He did not have to leave the glorious presence of Heaven to come to this earth. Our Lord is so magnificent. He left the confines of glory and became a mere human to guide us onto the path that leads to Heaven. Our Lord is glorious. He shed His blood upon the cross of Calvary to be our sacrifice. Our Lord is gracious. He died upon a cross to open up a pathway for us to Heaven. Our Lord has done so much for us, simply because of the love He holds for each of us. The love that God expresses for us every day should cause our tear ducts to overflow. The love that God expresses for us every day must cause us to share it within this world.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, Your love for me is so overwhelming. I am so undeserving of Your sacrifice and love. Forgive me of my sins, restore me, and help me see the path of righteousness.

3/28/13 Daily Devotion

1 Corinthians 15:55 “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?”

When a loved one passes, we are stung by their loss. They had an effect upon our lives, so it makes sense that their absence would bring hardship. But for those who live for Christ, this is but momentary, for death sees no victory. Christians mourn losses just as everyone else does, but with one major difference. For the Christian, death is not the end. For the Christian, it is the beginning of a glorious eternity within the presence of Jesus. For the Christian, death brings a sting to those we leave behind. But for us, it brings us into the reward we have been working towards.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, I know that death brings pain, but it also brings us into Your presence. Help prepare me for that moment when I cross from this world into the eternal.

3/27/13 Daily Devotion

Romans 6:9-10 For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. [10] The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.

Our conception of death is directly related to our understanding of life. We understand that life has a point of beginning, thus it must have a point of ending. A beautiful flower will remain so only until its appointed end arrives. A family pet is born and adored, until it departs and brings sadness. Even our automobiles have a moment of conception and a point of death. While all things have a point of entrance and a place of release, there is life for humans after death, and after this death will come no more. After our removal from existence within this world, after we stand before God in judgment, we shall live eternally and never taste death again. Some believe that this is true of those who enter into Heaven, but not for those who enter into Hell. They believe that we will be punished for our sins then relieved of our existence yet again to suffer no more. This could not be farther from the truth. Once we cross from this world into the eternal, we shall exist for all eternity, but where we exist is completely up to us. Where are your actions carrying you into eternity?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, I understand that as I depart this life, I will live for all eternity. Help me prepare myself to live with You and not within the pain and suffering of Hell.

3/26/13 Daily Devotion

2 Timothy 1:9-10 He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, [10] but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.

If we could write an essay about our Lord, we might entitle it, “The Day Death Died.” When Jesus took His last breath, He was placed within a borrowed tomb, but that tomb was only a temporary placement for Him. On the third day, on the first day of the week, the day that death died, that was the day that Jesus rose from the dead. He conquered death and all understanding of its reality. He changed the outlook of humanity, for now there is the understanding that death is not the end, for death is just the beginning of eternity. We shall pass from our existence within this world, but we will cross into the eternal, eternal bliss in the presence of God or eternal suffering in the confines of Hell. The choice is ours. Where do we want to spend eternity?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, I will be forever grateful for Your conquest of death, and I pray this will be seen through the life I am living for You.

3/25/13 Daily Devotion

Ephesians 3:11-12 according to his eternal purpose that he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. [12] In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.

Our purpose in life is only accomplished through Christ. After this statement is declared, there will be disagreement, but this comes only as the content of the subject is perceived. Most will say that they have set forth goals that have led them to or will lead them to accomplishing their purpose in life. What needs to be understood is that their purpose is exactly that, their purpose. When a Christian is focused on what God wants for their lives, their purpose changes into the purpose that God has for their lives, thus their purpose in life is only accomplished through Christ. The Bible does not say we can’t have goals in life. The Word does not declare that we cannot have any dreams. But as we are living for God, we will seek to walk within the purpose He has for our lives. Do your dreams line up with God’s will for your life? Do you seek to daily live out God’s purpose?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, show me what You have ordained as my purpose upon this earth, and help me to accomplish this according to Your timeline.

3/23/13 Daily Devotion

Luke 23:46 Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last.

The relationship between Jesus and God is the epitome of trust. Jesus trusted God as the soldiers beat Him. Jesus trusted God as the crowd shouted at Him. Jesus trusted God with His life as He laid it down upon the cross of Calvary. Jesus trusted God to the point of death. Jesus knew that God had a plan for His life, and He was willing to walk within the desires of God. Can the same be said of us? Are we willing to trust God when others stand against us? Are we willing to trust God when others refuse to acknowledge our existence? Are we willing to place our lives in the hands of God and walk the path that He has designed for our lives?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, I want to trust You with my life. I want to be willing to do whatever You ask of me. I want to, but I am not always willing. Please help me become more willing to trust in You.

3/22/13 Daily Devotion

Psalm 25:1 In you, Lord my God, I put my trust.

We get into our cars, place the keys in the ignition, and start our vehicles without considering what could possibly go wrong. We perform this type of action in many forms almost everyday. We blindly trust that nothing will go wrong, even though there are numerous possibilities that can go wrong. If we can walk through life trusting so easily in objects or entities, why do we sometimes have trouble trusting in God? God can offer us so much more, much more than all of the other things and/or people to which we so easily give our trust. Let us begin today, right now at this very moment, to trust in God as we have never done before in our lives. Let us begin to trust Him with our lives.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me to trust You for everything, for everything.

3/21/13 Daily Devotion

Isaiah 51:1 “Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness and who seek the Lord: Look to the rock from which you were cut and to the quarry from which you were hewn;

Within our Christian lives, we are to continually be in pursuit of righteousness. We are to seek what is good and right, according to God and His Word. We are to reach for the good and release the bad. We are to strive to walk a path that continually glorifies God. Being righteous does not mean lording our lives over another. It simply means trying to be as God has directed, upon the path that He has called us to walk, while influencing the lives of those whose paths we cross.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, show me how to become more righteous than I am at this very moment, so I can influence this world for Your glory.

3/20/13 Daily Devotion

Psalm 84:12 Lord Almighty, blessed is the one who trusts in you.

Who does not want to be blessed within their daily lives? Blessings in our work places, blessings in our schools, blessings in our homes, blessings in our relationships, who would not want to receive the blessings of God? Blessings captivate our faith and couple our trust in God. Blessings alter our moods and carry them into elation and joy. Blessings change us from the inside out, causing us to be pleased with our place in life and the God we serve. God blesses us in so many ways each and every day, but in many cases our senses completely miss them. Stop, look, grasp all the wonderful things God is doing within your life, and give Him the glory.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, for all the daily blessings I receive from You, I am truly grateful.
