3/9/13 Daily Devotion

John 19:28 Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.”

At this point in the crucifixion process, Jesus was enduring horrific pain. At this point, Jesus had lost vast amount of bodily fluids in the form of blood and sweat; therefore, His body had to ache for fluids. John states that three three short words from Jesus came to fulfill the reality of the bodily condition of Jesus, but also the fulfillment of scripture. The astute Biblical scholar will share that there could only be one likely verse of reference: Psalm 69:21. For His thirst, Jesus received sour wine. Is this what we offer Jesus? Do we offer Him sour wine instead of glorious service? Do we offer Him a cheap beverage or a worthy witness? What does your offer to Jesus offer in return for what His has offered up to God on your behalf?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, words cannot express how wonderful it is to know that I am loved by You. Please continue to express this love to me, even when I fail to live with gratitude.
