4/4/13 Daily Devotion

James 1:19 My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,

If the directives within today’s scripture reference were followed by even half of those in existence upon this earth, the quality of our existence would increase immensely. In most cases, when we want to jump into a conversation, we have caused, in the least, momentary friction. But even worse than that, we find ourselves at a point of interjecting when we do not have complete knowledge of the situation. What would happen if we were given a puzzle to piece together, but it came with no picture? Eventually, after much difficulty, we might be able to discern what the image was and finish the puzzle, but it would have been easier if we possessed a clear idea from the beginning. When we jump into a conversation, we lay the ground work for the presence of anger and/or frustration to begin, and that never brings a good viable solution to the issues at hand.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me understand the importance of being quick to listen and slow to speak.
