6/4/13 Daily Devotion

Deuteronomy 5:15 Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the Lord your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the Lord your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day.

God, as our scripture states, commanded the Israelites us to observe the Sabbath. He wanted them to gather and remember all that He had done for them while knowing that He would continue to work within their lives in the days to come. This is not something that has lost its importance within our lives today. We gather on Sunday to remember what God has done within our lives. We gather to remember the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross of Calvary. We gather to honor Him because He deserves to be honored, praised, and worshipped. When we skip out on church for another function, we are skipping out on a blessing. When we skip out on church for a day of sleep, we are rejecting the opportunity to show God how much He means to us.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, encourage me to understand the importance of the weekly Sunday gathering at church.
