6/6/13 Daily Devotion

Acts 20:7 On the first day of the week we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to the people and, because he intended to leave the next day, kept on talking until midnight.

They gathered together to partake in communion and to learn from the apostle Paul. They gathered to remember Jesus and to learn about the power He has within their lives. They gathered to learn more about their responsibilities as Christians. They gathered because gathering is a necessity. There is something important that here requires our notice: they gathered but did not stare at the clock. They wanted to have the privilege to absorb as much of Paul’s teachings as they were allowed. That just doesn’t happen much anymore. The are some churches that have long services, and no one complains. The majority, however, are in and out ASAP. Why is this true? We should be willing to spend more time at church, more time praising God, more time worshipping Him, more time learning about what He has done and what we need to be doing ourselves. Church is essential to all Christians, ALL Christians, and should be treated as such.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me understand how important it is for me to set aside time each week to gather within Your house of worship.
