6/18/13 Daily Devotion

2 Samuel 12:9 Why did you despise the word of the Lord by doing what is evil in his eyes? You struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and took his wife to be your own. You killed him with the sword of the Ammonites.

God sent Nathan to rebuke David, for David’s actions were inappropriate to say the least. David became infatuated with Bathsheba and set in motion a plan that resulted in the death of her husband, Uriah, thus allowing David to take her to be his wife. God was displeased with David’s action. God had brought many blessings into David’s life, and David’s actions brought shame to himself and the God he served. Our actions have a direct result on not only our personal witness, but the church also. When we walk incorrectly, people begin to question our beliefs and the church we attend. We must be careful to do all that we can to walk the narrow path, the path designed by God, and blessed by His presence.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me understand that my actions can either have a positive or negative effect within this world. Please help me make mine positive.
