8/9/13 Daily Devotion

Ezra 8:23 So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and he answered our prayer.

Ezra and many others were returning to Jerusalem. He gathered everyone together. He asked them to humble themselves before The Lord and pray for their journey. Ezra knew that his best opportunity for a safe journey rested in the presence and mercy of God. Here’s the question that we need to ponder: how often do we journey without preparation? Sounds like an unnecessary questions at first glance, but it is one that we must consider. While we prepare for all our journeys, we do occasionally forget something. In most cases, this turns out not to be to much of a big deal, but there is one exception. Most of us do not take the time to humble ourselves before The Lord and ask for His presence and mercy on our journey, most of us get together and go without much thought. Why don’t we take the time to ask God for travel mercies? Why don’t we believe that we need to receive God’s mercies when we travel? Why don’t we take advantage of this opportunity, this gift, from God? Simply stated, we don’t because we are in too much of a hurry. We gather, and we go. This needs to change.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, please help me seek Your mercy more each day.
