8/14/13 Daily Devotion

Deuteronomy 30:2-3 and when you and your children return to the Lord your God and obey him with all your heart and with all your soul according to everything I command you today, [3] then the Lord your God will restore your fortunes and have compassion on you and gather you again from all the nations where he scattered you.

What happens when a stray Christian finds his way home? The answer would seem to be simple, but in reality it can be very difficult. After we have walked away from the Lord for a considerable amount of time, it can be very difficult to return to the same point within our walk. This truth comes not from a punishment of God, but at the hands of our own conscience. When we have strayed, many of us feel so guilty for doing so that we refrain from allowing God to completely forgive us, restore us, and place us upon the path to righteousness. Guilt keeps us from feeling like we have the right to be restored, but it shouldn’t. We have to realize that we are all imperfect and serve a loving God, a God that wants to help us move along in the proper direction. The question is: will you accept God’s forgiveness and move forward with Him?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me understand Your graciousness as I embrace Your forgiveness and step onto the path of righteousness again.
