8/23/13 Daily Devotion

Hebrews 11:4 By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead.

The truth within the words of this verse are very powerful: “And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead.” Even though Abel no longer walks upon this earth, what he did when he was here, his actions while he was alive, still speak to us today. We read about him and his offering. We experience his willingness to give of his best, and it still touches our hearts all these years later. Have you ever thought about what will happen after you exit this world and enter the eternal? How will people react to your departure? Will your presence here leave such a mark that people will continue to talk about you for years after you have gone? The manner in which we live our lives is more important than we have chosen to believe. Many people are just going through life, hoping to have a good run, while not even considering their mark upon society. Still many others are leaving a mark, but it’s blemished by their misguided notions and/or ideals. What will people say about you after you depart from this world and enter the eternal?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me live a life that continues to change people long after I am gone, a life that demonstrates my love for You.
