8/29/13 Daily Devotion

1 John 5:18 We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them.

A large amount of people like to state that we will no longer sin if we are truly saved. If this were the case, then everyone who is saved should expect God to transform him into perfection. Are you a human being? If the answer is yes, then you can expect to have a mistake or two or a dozen happen at your doing in the next week, but this does not negate our Christianity, as some would claim. How then could today’s verse proclaim the following: “We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin”? This verse is referring to our propensity towards sin. The natural Christian instinct of those who are saved should be towards the elimination of sin. Thus we strive to do all that glorifies God and nothing that He would consider as wrong. Anyone born of God should be willing to fight the desire to sin and refuse to allow sinful things to occur within our lives. Will we win every time? NO, but we will definitely grow and become stronger and more prepared for the next battle.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me learn from my mistakes, using them to help me grow stronger in my faith and more focused on You.
