9/12/13 Daily Devotion

Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

When Jesus departed this earth, He promised the coming of the Spirit in His physical absence. He told His disciples to wait for its arrival, and, upon receiving it, they would be fill with the presence and power of God. Through this power, they would be able to accomplish the tasks that God had set before their lives. What’s changed? Nothing, really. Upon baptism, we receive the indwelling Spirit of God; because of it, we are filled with the presence and power of God. The problem lies in the fact that many Christians, while they should be flowing with the Spirit, are stifling its presence simply because they want to live life their way. The question they should answer in this case should be: why are you a Christian? If we don’t want to turn our lives completely over to God, why bring forth any false statement of allegiance? God’s expectation is, simply, complete surrender. In return, He presents us with His presence and power through His Spirit.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, fill me with Your presence and allow me to feel Your power.
