9/26/13 Daily Devotion

Acts 2:38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Baptism is essential for all believers. Some people downplay its importance and/or inclusion within our Christian lives, but that could never be so far from the truth. Baptism is one of the greatest moments within our lives. It is the moment when we have all our sins symbolically washed away. Beyond that wonderful knowledge, however, is this: it is also the moment in which the indwelling Spirit of God comes into our lives. Peter said we need to repent, be baptized, and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, the indwelling presence of God. People like to go straight to the indwelling and skip the baptism. In other words, they want their cake but none of the calories. But this is impossible, for scripture declares we receive the Holy Spirit as we are baptized. Are you within the guidance of the Holy Spirit?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me follow the complete truth as presented within Your scriptures.
