Bible Review, “The NIV Ragamuffin Bible”

NIV Ragamuffin Bible cover

The NIV Ragamuffin Bible: Meditations For The Bedraggled, Beat-Up & Brokenhearted, Published by Zondervan, is a Bible centered around the NIV text with inspirations from Brennan Manning.

The NIV Ragamuffin Bible contains one hundred four devotions, two hundred fifty reflections, and one hundred fifty quotes from the life works of Brennan Manning. These writings to draw the reader closer to God and His Word, while encouraging them to grow stronger within their Christian walk/relationship with God.

While many might have mixed feelings about Brennan Manning, none can deny his dedication to God, as a priest, and the people of God. Brennan sought to reach to masses with the message of Christ, and this Bible seeks to do the same utilizing Brennan’s passionate writing and straight forward presentation of the Word.

The text used for this Bible is the easy to understand NIV version. This version offers a presentation of the gospel that is bound to touch its readers’ life. While there is a great debate about its accuracy and depiction of the original intention of the scriptures, I, for one, am glad of its existence.

The NIV text of the Ragamuffin Bible, combined with Manning’s inspiration, make this a Bible to own. Thus it is a recommended purchase.
