11/29/13 Daily Devotion

Matthew 5:13 You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.

In the days of the Bible, salt was used as a preservative to help keep food fresh longer. After its usefulness was over, the salt was thrown out on the road, where it was trampled into the ground by those passing. This analogy of Jesus was used to demonstrate how we, as Christians, are to live. We are the salt of this world; we are the preservers of this world. We are to live our lives with such focus, with such purpose, that we help set an example that is to be looked upon in a positive light. On the opposite end of this, we find a serious truth. If we are not living our lives to the glory of God, we are then considered useless. For that, we shall not receive a favorable judgment.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, utilize me as an example to be followed, and use others to enhance my example.
