Isaiah 9:6 For to us a child is born,to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

What is God to you? In speaking of the arrival of Jesus, Isaiah paints a beautiful description of who was to be anticipated. Among the four descriptions, Jesus was to be called Wonderful Counselor, but what does that mean? In some versions of the Bible, the words Wonderful Counselor are separated with a comma, but this does not change their meaning. What is the purpose of a counselor? Counselors serve as a guide to someone in need. They give advice, point you in the proper direction, and help you see where you have erred along the way. They open your eyes on that to which you have closed them. If they have done their job, we are more than willing to recommend them to another person. Well, this is a perfect description of Jesus. Jesus is our guide; He is our Wonderful Counselor. He wants to help us in any way that He can, as long as it follows the will of His Father.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me share within this world all that You, my Wonderful Counselor, have done within my life.
