12/21/13 Daily Devotion

Isaiah 9:6 For to us a child is born,to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be calledWonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

What is God to you? In speaking of the arrival of Jesus, Isaiah paints a beautiful description of who was to be anticipated. Among the four descriptions, Jesus was to be called Prince of Peace. Peace is exactly what the Jews needed. They were oppressed and lacking in direction. They were awaiting their Savior, hoping things would change and their future would look brighter. Isaiah’s words might have brought a small amount of comfort to them, but they were still lost, still seeking peace. That’s the wonderful thing we need to see today. Yes, we can read the prophecy of Isaiah. Yes, we can imagine how they felt as it was presented, but we are also blessed to know that this prophecy has been fulfilled. We are blessed to know that we can live at peace because He lived, died, and rose from the grave. We can be at peace because God is with us each and every day.

Prayer Starter

Lord, I am so grateful for all that You have done for mankind. Please fill this world with the peace of Your existence, the peace of Your knowledge, that it might begin to reach for Your presence.
