1/14/14 Daily Devotion

Colossians 3:15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

Everybody knows somebody, even if it’s themselves, who loves to be the center of attention. When we are surrounded by their, shall we say, essence, our lives are hindered, our lives are not filled with peace. When others think that our existence is centered around bringing them joy, we are ALWAYS lacking in joy ourselves. Since we know this to be true already, we must consider how this hinders the church given the same set of circumstances. When the church tries to exist around the expectations of either a single person or a small group of people, it will lose sight of the purpose of its existence. It will lose its ability to reach into the community and changes lives. When the church tries to exist around the expectations of either a single person or a small group of people, its members will not feel nor will they experience the peace of God.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me see the need to exist as an integral part of my church while refraining from the attempt to force my church to be an integral part of my desires and ideology.
