1/16/14 Daily Devotion

Joshua 24:15 But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.

While the correct choice seems to be very obvious, many people find it hard to decide whom they will serve, God or themselves. Each option comes with benefits, but one seems to drastically outweigh the other. Yet many still seem to walk away from God, choosing to serve themselves. To serve ourselves offers many moments of gratitude, times of joy, and opportunities of happiness. Serving God offers us the same things, but so much more. Serving God offers us moments of gratitude, times of joy, and opportunities of happiness; but it also offers us, through our dedication to Him, eternal life within His presence in Heaven. What we gain from serving ourselves has a time limit, but what we gain from serving God goes on for all eternity.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me understand that the benefits to serving You far outweigh the benefits of serving myself.
