2/5/14 Daily Devotion

Romans 12:4-5 Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.

When we consider the marriage relationship, we would agree with Paul that each involved in this union belong to one another, but not many believe this to be true when we consider the church. When we walk into a marriage, we do so with the understanding that we are committing our lives to our mate; and this involves, at least for the Christian, the two becoming one flesh, the two becoming part of the other. When we consider the church, we do believe that we are a necessary part of its existence, but we do not believe that we belong to the members. We understand that as a team of believers we are to work together to fulfill the will of God for the church, but most of us feel that there is a time of disconnect, a time of separation throughout the week. Why, however, would there be a time of disconnect, a time of separation? If we are part of a body, wouldn’t we want to remain part of that body at all times? Why would we want to be disconnected from those we worship? Why would we want to be separated from those that share our faith? If we want to be separated or disconnected from the church and/or it’s members throughout the week, then one must wonder if we feel the same about God?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me carry my relationship with You and the members of my church into each day of the week, not just on Sundays.
