3/15/14 Daily Devotion

Galatians 5:1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

Do we want to be bound or free? The Galatians bound themselves to the legalistic, thus becoming enslaved by that which is required of their lives. They had become slaves to the rules exposed by those leading them astray. They had become enslaved to regulations that brought them away far from the faith they once cherished, the faith they once loved. Maybe it seems harsh to have them described as slaves to this new way of thinking, this new way of living, but that is exactly what was happening. It might not be politically correct to use the image of slavery, but that’s what happens when we place control of our lives under the imposed rules of those who are trying to pull us away from God for their own personal gain. There are so many things in this world that are present to enhance our lives, but there are many more that strive to enslave us to their way of existing. The question is simple: Do we want to be enslaved by something that is self-serving, something that keeps us from reaching our potential in God?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me see through that which strives to keep me from living my life for You.
