4/5/14 Daily Devotion

Matthew 21:8-9 A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Hosanna in the highest!”

Those within the crowd, those along the pathway, honored Jesus. They honored Him with their actions. They honored Him as they displayed their love for Him and His position within this world. They honored Him for His presence within their lives. To them at that moment in time, He was the most important person to exist, but unfortunately this did not last long. As the rest of the story plays out, it was just a short week later when they decided that they were more important than Jesus. When they discovered what was going to happen to Him, they began to care less about His presence and more about their futures. Has this ever happened within your life? Have you turned away from God because you were trying to save yourself, your reputation, your image? In all honesty, we have all been there at one point or another. We just don’t like to say it out loud. As Christians, we must remember what Jesus said in Matthew 10:32-33: “Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven.”

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me become willing to acknowledge You, as You have acknowledged me.
