5/19/14 Daily Devotion

Ephesians 2:11-12 Therefore, remember that formerly you who are Gentiles by birth and called “uncircumcised” by those who call themselves “the circumcision” (that done in the body by the hands of men)– remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world.

Paul wants the Ephesians to remember the time when they were considered worthless. He wants them to reflect on the time when they were not even considered by the “Religious Elite.” He wants them to remember what if felt like to be separated from Christ, to not even be offered the opportunity to become a servant of God. He wants them to remember so they will begin to appreciate the advancements they have made. He wants them to remember so they will begin to appreciate all that God has done within their lives, all that God has done to bring them opportunities they were once refused. The same can be repeated in regards to us. We have not had the same difficulties in regards to being allowed to worship God, of course, but we often forget about where we have been and where we are now because of Him. This simply cannot continue to be the case. We must step back and show our gratitude to God as we reflect on His workings within our lives. We must step back and remind ourselves how God has continually demonstrated His love within our lives. If we don’t, if we neglect this opportunity, we will soon forget the necessity of God within our lives.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, remind me of all that You have done within my life, so I will be ready for what You can do in my future.
