The NIV Life Journey Bible: Explore How Scripture Meets Your Deepest Needs, Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend General editors, published by Zondervan Publishing, is a Bible that desires to enhance the lives of all those who are blessed to turn its pages.

As it states in the title, this Bible comes in the easy to read and understand New International Version, but the positive aspects of it do not end at this point. Colorful maps, detailed study aids, and captivating book introductions bring this Bible to a must have in your arsenal of scriptures.

While the afore mentioned positive aspects of this Bible are wonderful, they are, for the most part, found upon the pages of almost every Bible printed today. So why purchase this particular Bible? I’m glad you asked. This Bible has so much more to offer its readers than the average on the market today.

Its enhancements come from the pens of Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend. They have put together some amazing insights based on their growth principles, insights that help the student of scripture engage more powerfully in the act of study. These insights make it easier to seek spiritual, personal and relational growth.

The choice of a new Bible is important and should not be taken lightly. For those seeking a deeper, more spiritually focused relationship with God, I would highly recommend looking twice at this one.

Ephesians 3:21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

What does your life represent? It seems like a simple question; but is it really? We all have a list of favorites. We have our favorite teams, our favorite foods, our favorite shows, our favorite animals, our personal favorites. These favorites are part of the fabric of our lives. They help determine who we are and what the course of our lives will look like. They are the essence of our lives. We revolve our lives around our favorites. We cater our lives towards the indwelling of our favorites. We adjust our lives in regards to our favorites. Where does God fit into this scheme? Shouldn’t He be at the top of the list? Shouldn’t He be above all other things and desires? Shouldn’t He be receiving all the glory and honor for that which He has done for not only us, but for the entire world? What does your life represent?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help my life represent You in a powerful way, in a way that glorifies You.

Ephesians 3:20 now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,

When life comes full force upon us, we often find it hard to believe that God has what is needed to intervene. When life comes at us, we often feel like nothing can change our circumstances. We become overwhelmed. We become fixated on the problems and the pain they are causing, and we can’t see anything or anyone that is able to assist, anyone that is able to help. What we must come to understand, what we must come to believe, is that God is more than capable of helping us no matter the situation, no matter the circumstances. This is an ideology that we must embrace, this is an ideology that we must center our lives around. For if we don’t, the difficulties of life will surely overtake our lives.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me trust in You and Your plan for my life. Help me believe that You are willing to work within the circumstances of my life for the betterment of myself and Your glory.

Ephesians 3:18 may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ,

Can we really grasp the extent of God’s love? Can we really understand how wide and long and high and deep His love really extends? We might want to answer no, but this would not be true. We can see the extent of God’s love through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross of Calvary. We can see the extent of God’s love in the forgiveness He willingly offers to us because of the shed blood of Jesus. We can understand the love of God, if we are willing to believe in the actions of Jesus. We can understand the love of God, if we are willing to believe in the truth of scripture. The question that we must ask ourselves is this: Do we want to believe?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me believe in Your love. Help me feel the existence of Your love.

6/4/14 Daily Devotion

Ephesians 3:17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love,

Paul wanted the Ephesians to have a powerful relationship with God. He wanted them to be grounded in their faith and powerfully focused in their existence. He wanted them to live intentionally for the sake of God and in reflection of that which God did for them through Christ, and this comes from the indwelling of Christ. Paul prayed that Christ would dwell within their hearts through their faith. In other words, he prayed that their lives would be so focused on Jesus that He would take up residence within their lives, that He would become the essence of their existence. This should be the desire and/or prayer of all Christians. We should all desire to have Christ dwell within our hearts in such a way that He becomes the driving force of our existence. We should all desire to have Him become the most important aspect of our existence. We should; but is it actually happening, or are we getting in the way?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me have a powerful desire to be filled with Your presence, to be filled with Your Spirit.

Ephesians 3:16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being,

Paul wanted the Ephesians to receive strength and power, and this was reflected within his prayers. They were dealing with a difficult situation. They were caught up in a circumstance that could result in the loss of faith, even if it were in the smallest of ways. They were being misguided, misled, and falsified, and Paul wanted them to have strength and power. He wanted them to be able to overcome their circumstances and return to focusing on God. He wanted them to be able to have the strength to stand up against the unrighteous motives of others. He wanted them to get back on track with God. Shouldn’t that be the content of our prayers? Shouldn’t we ask God for the same for all believers? Wouldn’t we want someone praying that in regards to our lives?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me seek to bring Your power into the lives of other believers, as I ask You to intervene within their lives.

Ephesians 3:14 For this reason I kneel before the Father,

The passion Paul felt for other believers is clearly seen within his desire to lift them up in prayer. The contents of his prayers covered the necessities that are common to us all, but they also included things of a personal nature, areas where he knew they were struggling. How often do we kneel before God bringing the concerns of others into His presence? How often do we place the prayer needs of others before our own? Paul’s life expresses the need for personal prayer, corporate prayer, and prayers for others. What do our lives express in regards to prayer?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me demonstrate to others my willingness to lift them up to You in prayer.

Bible Review: New Spirit-Filled Life Bible, Thomas Nelson, Publisher

The New Spirit-Filled Life Bible: Kingdom Equipping Through The power Of The Word, published by Thomas Nelson, edited by Jack W. Hayford, is a unique Study Bible that offers its readers a new spiritually centered perspective on the events and circumstances of The Bible.

My reaction to receiving a new Bible can be compared to a teenager that has been given free range of the local Apple Store. To say I was excited about the opportunity to receive and review the New Spirit-Filled Life Bible would be a drastic understatement, for I am grateful for this opportunity and grateful to add this wonderful Bible to my collection of study tools.

While I own numerous Bibles, published in a multitude of versions, there is always room for one more if it has the ability to guide my study of scripture in a unique manner, if it has the ability to enhance my walk with Christ, The New Spirit-Filled Life Bible certainly fits this ideology.

This Bible houses all that we have come to expect within a study Bible, such as the following:
Overviews and Outlines of Each Book of the Bible
Verse-By-Verse Notes at the Bottom of Each Page
Articles On Relevant Bible Topics
In-Text Maps and Charts
Concordance
Full Color Maps
Harmony of the Gospels

Now we come to what makes this Bible uniquely useful.

Kingdom Dynamics: This in-text feature allows for the study of 41 different themes throughout the Bible. These passages are highlighted utilizing a dove symbol and a gray-screened section of text. References are separated by a slash (/) and the use of an asterisk (*) indicates the text being red is the first in a chain.

Word Wealth: This feature provides in-text study of over 550 key Bible words by utilizing their meaning as intended from their language of origination. These sections, highlighted in pink, offer the Strong’s Concordance Number, for further reference.

Truth In Action: This feature is located at the end of each book of the Bible. This tool, highlighted in pink and gray, displays the key themes and passages in each book which allows them to be better applied to our lives.

While I would not recommend this Bible to become your everyday go to Bible, I do recommend it become an additional element of your study tools utilized to enhance your relationship with God.
