6/26/14 Daily Devotion

Ephesians 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

So many people speak before they think. They expel words without considering the context, the content, or their audience. They throw out these words of hatred, anger, or disdain, and only after they are released do they think of their impact. Even then, in many cases they still show no concern for any possible ramifications. Words are filled with power. They are filled with the power to lift and the power to destroy. They can be used to bring joy into one’s life, and they can be used to make a person feel lower than the ground. We must, as Christians, consider our words carefully, carefully consider what they will do once they are released from our lips. For if we do not, we can be opening up a can of worms that we are unable to close, even after many years have come and gone.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help my mouth be filled with words that glorify You and lift up others.
