Ephesians 4:30-31 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.

What? Can Paul seriously be asking us to remove all the fun out of life? Can he seriously be asking us to not seek revenge? Can he seriously be asking us not to seek justice against another person? Why would Paul ask us to act without bitterness, rage, anger, brawling, slander, and malice? After careful consideration, the answer is simple. Paul is asking because this is what it means to seek to live for Christ. Paul is not asking anything more than that from which he himself refrains. He is asking us to be like him, to act like him, to follow his example. Paul wants us to become more like Jesus in every area of our lives, thus becoming a positive reflection of Jesus within this world. So, in essence, he wants us to get rid of all that hinders us from being the kind of person we are called to reflect.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me remove from my life all that hinders me from showing this a false faith.
