8/14/14 Daily Devotion

James 1:16 Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers.

For the most part, we have a tendency to trust others; that is, until that trust is violated. We want to think the best of others; that is, until we have been taken a time or two. This trust flows stronger, especially when it comes to those involved in the church. We want to believe our pastors. We want to believe the church leaders. We want to believe our Sunday school teachers. We want to believe so much so that it becomes very easy for us to be deceived. So called preachers that have personal motives in mind stand behind podiums every week. They desire to expand their churches, yes; but they also desire to expand their wallets, their homes, and their lifestyles. The best way we can defend ourselves from these people is to study the Word of God. As we know the Word of God, as we study the scriptures on a daily basis, we are not so easily deceived. This power of overcoming deception comes from knowing the Word and using it as a basis to test all that is said, all that is expressed, all that is claimed.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me know Your Word so I can know when deception is arriving.
