8/21/14 Daily Devotion

James 1:15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

Life would be so different if all temptations were removed. Life would be more enjoyable if everything we encountered here on earth was brought as a benefit to our walk with God. Problem: that’s what it was created to be, but sin entered and was embraced without considering the consequences. We can blame it on Adam and Eve, or we can simply state that they are no different than all other humans to walk upon this earth. They were tempted, that temptation led to sin, and that sin led to separation from the presence of God. It hasn’t changed. It all still occurs the same way. We are tempted, we consider for a millisecond what the results might be, and we do it anyway. Even though it makes no sense, that’s how it started, and that’s how it continues. We make quick, un-thoughtful decisions that lead us right into the presence of sin and away from the presence of God. We do not have to continue to walk in this pattern. All we need to do is completely, wholeheartedly, embrace the presence and ways of God within our lives.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me know what I must do to remain focused on You in times of temptation, in times of trial.
