8/25/14 Daily Devotion

James 1:19-20 My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.

These two verses simply take the fun out of life. They take away our right to burst into anger. They take away our right to ignore others. They take away our right to share words of, shall we say, a colorful and inappropriate nature. They are fun zappers to the max. But what happens when we do not follow their advice and instead walk into situations with guns loaded? Well, nothing good. There is a reason for this direction, and that is to approach situations in a manner that glorifies God, but also in a manner that will see to a resolution and not a more negatively advanced situation or circumstance. When we follow the directives of scripture, even though it may be difficult, even though it may go against our natural instincts, even though it takes away our right for revenge, we come out, on the other side, better people.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me approach difficult situations through the guidance of Scripture.
