8/26/14 Daily Devotion

James 1:21 Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.

Therefore is an interesting word. It’s a connecting word that tells us to carry the previous sentences into the one(s) that are about to follow. In essence, it reminds us to take the afore mentioned information and add to it that which we are about to receive. Yesterday, we came to understand that we must approach situations appropriately. We must approach them in a Godly manner. Now James adds to that teaching the reason why we do not approach things as we should. Simply stated, it is because we are not being Christians. The world still has its clutches into our flesh. It still has a hold of our hearts. It still has us focusing first and foremost on ourselves. James says to get rid of all this junk, to remove it from our lives and adhere to the Word of God. Simply stated and not simply brought to fruition. This attitude takes a powerful focus on the will of God and the Word of God. It takes our willingness to understand the desires of God for our lives through prayer and study. It takes an effort on our part; but as it is said, anything worth doing is worth doing well, that is unless we are pretending to be Christians.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me become a real Christian, one that demonstrates faithfulness not by words but through actions.
