James 1:2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds,

Where is the joy in suffering? Where is the happiness in pain? Where is the satisfaction in turmoil? Consider it pure joy; consider it pure joy, WHAT? Isn’t that how we feel when we read these words of James? Doesn’t the thought of his intentions make your blood boil? James must have had a perfect life. He must have not received the opportunity to face any trials. He must not have had the opportunity to experience the joy of persecution. This is what we might think, but it couldn’t be farther from the truth. James, shall we say, received the opportunity to experience the harder, harsher, more difficult side of living for Jesus, but he saw it in a different way. He came to understand that all that was endured was the result of a life well lived for the gospel. He came to understand that as people came after him, his character, or his reputation, they did so because they noticed his commitment to Christ; and, for that, he was honored. How do you perceive the trials in your life?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me, as James states, to consider it pure joy when I face the trials this life will bring.
