8/6/14 Daily Devotion

James 1:4 Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

The trials that enter our lives have a purpose. Even though, at times, they make life more difficult or cause us to walk a crooked path, they have a purpose. Trials, while not pleasant to endure, open our eyes to our faith or lack thereof. They serve as a tool to help better know how much we trust in God and how much we trust in ourselves. The understanding comes from the manner with which we enter and exit the trial. Most of us enter the same way. Something happens, something goes wrong, something transpires that carries us off in what is perceived as a parallel moment in time, parallel to the place where we were, parallel to the place we believe we ought to be found. After this entrance, this is where the true testing happens. After this entrance, this is where we find out the true content of our faith, this is where we come to understand the level at which we walk by faith. Do we reach for God? Do we lean on him? Do we entrust Him enough to get us through?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me to lean on You within the moments of difficulty, the moments that put a strain on my life.
