9/1/14 Daily Devotion

James 2:1 My brothers, as believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, don’t show favoritism.

The wording that James utilizes in this verse is perfect. He states exactly what we are not to do, while reminding us that the reasoning is because we are Christians. As Christians, we are called to be different than the average person. We are called to act differently. We are called to react differently. We are called to live differently, and, as James states, we are called to treat people differently. We are not to hold one person with higher esteem than another. We are not to consider one person as greater than another. We are to be considered equal with all people; we are to love all people. This is very difficult, because we have a tendency to elevate those within our circles and/or those that have the ability to advance our existence. However, this must cease if we are to be considered Christians.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me treat everyone with the same distinction.
