9/2/14 Daily Devotion

James 2:2 Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in shabby clothes also comes in.

When we look at people, we have the tendency to make a snap decision, a snap judgment, about their existence. When we see a person that is well dressed standing next to a person wearing shabby clothes and sleeping on a park bench, we make an instant determination of which one has worth and which one is worthless. You might say, “I certainly do not do such a ridiculous thing.” In this case, you must look deep into your own heart and find the truth, because everyone has manufactured such a thought at some point in his life. We are all human, and our humanistic instincts naturally engage our thoughts when confronted with such a scenario. If it’s natural, if it’s automatic, what can be done? It’s simple, we take captive every thought and convert it to something proper. Catch yourself before the statement can be completed, before words flow from your lips. Turn these thoughts into something positive, something Godly. Look at the person and observe his situation through the eyes of God, not the eyes of man.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me see the worth in everyone.
