9/4/14 Daily Devotion

James 2:5 Listen, my dear brothers: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him?

Can a person’s wealth effect their faith? The answer to that question is unequivocally, YES. Does wealth always effect a person’s faith? The answer to the question is unequivocally, NO. We are the determining factor in how wealth effects our faith. We decide how monetary blessings guide our lives. It all comes down to our focus. When we focus more on our wealth and less on the will of God, our lives will pull away from God. It can be a slow process, one that we might not even notice. It can also be a fast process, if we are so willing to care more about our money than we do about God. It happens every day. Money changes people, and not usually for the better; thus we must be careful how we see ourselves and how we perceive others for the same reason.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me come to understand how money has the ability to affect my Christianity. Help me to continually focus on You in all areas of my life.
