10/3/14 Daily Devotion

James 3:17 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.

This combination of words that James uses to describe wisdom from Heaven is very interesting. Wisdom from Heaven can be seen as the personification of God. Wisdom from Heaven is first of all pure, for beginning any other way taints its existence, its purpose, and its example. Wisdom from purity evolves into peace-loving, because this is the essence of God, wanting us to live purely while promoting a peaceful, loving environment. Godly wisdom is considerate, because it does not think only of itself and is submissive to the desires and ways of God. As it’s being considerate of others and submissive to the desires of God, Godly wisdom is full of mercy and good fruit or good works, because it is concerned about others and their needs. Godly wisdom is also impartial, because it sees no race or color. It sees only the person. Finally, Godly wisdom in sincere, because it comes from a heart filled with the presence and power of God. Being wise is important, but having the correct wisdom is eternally important.
