10/7/14 Daily Devotion

James 4:4-7 You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. Or do you think Scripture says without reason that the spirit he caused to live in us envies intensely? But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

There is an expectation that as we come to truly understand the implications of what Jesus did on the cross of Calvary, we will change. We should change in such a manner that it becomes visible to those that walk within our lives and even those outside. Our desire to be friends with the world or embrace the ideology of the world should fade away, and our desire to submit to serving and living for God should increase. This change is not immediate, but gradual. For some, it happens faster than others, but it must begin to be conceptualized from the moment we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior and continue to emerge more powerfully until the day we are called home.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me sever my friendship with the world and tie myself tightly to Your will, Your desires.
