9/19/14 Daily Devotion

James 2:20-22 You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless? Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.

As we try to understand the concept of Abraham’s decision to follow God’s desire, we sometimes become perplexed. Why would God ask Abraham to perform such a cruel task? Why would God take away the vessel that He promised to utilize after chastising Abraham for his lack of faith in regards to the entrance of Ishmael into this world? While many questions might roll through our minds, we must remain focused on Abraham. Abraham had decided to allow God’s will to prevail. He had decided to allow God to truly be his Lord and walk in exactness of his faith, and for that God blessed him immensely. While following God is not always easy, it is the best option, for if we do not do as He desires, we will regret it for all eternity.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me have the faith of Abraham as I walk forth into the life You have set before me.
