9/26/14 Daily Devotion

James 3:7-8 All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

If no man can, as James states, tame the tongue, what hope is there for us? Alone no man, alone no person, can tame the tongue, but the hope we have is found in Jesus. Alone we have no chance, but because of Jesus we have the ability to share our words in a proper manner. We can do many things with our own abilities, but this can only be done through Jesus. So how does it happen? We turn our words over to Him. It will not be easy, especially if we are in the habit of using colorful language. We must take captive every word, every sentence, in the name of Jesus. We must allow only that which will glorify God and edify others to flow from our lips. That means we must become habitual in thinking before we speak, thinking about every word before any of them are released. Alone this is an impossibility, but with Christ it is more than a possibility. With Christ, it can be done.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me take captive every word that desires to flow from my lips, making sure they are appropriate according to Your standards before they are released.
