10/15/14 Daily Devotion

James 4:14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.

James says we are but a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. As we consider a mist, as we consider its existence, we see something that is seemingly insignificant, unimportant. We see something that is basically unneeded. But what happens when a mist arrives on a hot humid day? What happens when an early morning mist falls upon a crop that has not seen much water? There are moments when a mist is very important, even if its existence is short lived. What James is trying to remind us is simple. If we are here for a short period of time, we should make the best of what we are doing. If we are here for a short time, we should consider how important it is to live our lives out loud in the name of Jesus. He is saying that we focus so much on things that are temporary that we often forget about that which contributes to our eternal placement.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me see the importance of stepping up my faith.
