11/1/14 Daily Devotion

James 5:12 Above all, my brothers, do not swear–not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. Let your “Yes” be yes, and your “No,” no, or you will be condemned.

The importance of our words cannot be understated. When we allow words to leave our mouths, they must be able to be trusted by others, or they will have a negative impact. This negative impact will go far beyond what we could have imagined. It will affect our reputation. If it is believed and passed on as truth by the receiver, it will also affect their reputation negatively. But most of all, it will put all that we say and do in the future into question. It’s such a simple concept: “Let your “Yes” be yes, and your “No,” no, or you will be condemned.” But so many of us choose to the path of condemnation. Which path will you choose?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me bring forth words that can be trusted, words that seek to honor You and all You have done within my life.
