11/14/14 Daily Devotion

James 3:6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

We have within our mouths a tool of encouragement and a tool of destruction. We utilize our tongues to lift some up while knocking others to the ground. The tongue is both a blessing and a curse. It is both good and bad, but it doesn’t have to be this way. By ourselves, we can’t control such a beast. By ourselves, we can’t tame such an animal; but with the help of God, anything is possible, with the help of God it can be done. We can start with prayer. Pray continually for the right mindset. Pray for the ability to think about the words before they exit the mouth. Pray that God will give you a change of heart which will in turn affect the manner in which you speak. Prayer will do wonders. The greatest tool that can be utilized was taught be Mr. Winnie The Pooh, “Think, Think, Think,” before you speak.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me know what I am going to say before it flows off my lips, so I might change what needs to be changed before it causes any damage.
